BiG Winner and the Biggest Loser

Teen obesity is a major crisis in this country and as a former fatty I know how painful, isolating and sad it is to be in that age and have to carry that burden. That is why I am so happy that Mindstream Academy, a boarding school for kids with weight challenges is now open just down the road from my home on Hilton Head. The team at Mindstream are passionate about kids and now, Patrick House, last seasons winner of The Biggest Loser competition is using his new found celebrity to spread the word about Mindstream. My role as Executive Chef has been to help craft menu and produce recipes featuring produce gathered from on-site organic gardens, fresh eggs from MS’s laying “ladies” (hens…and if you have never had the exquisite pleasure of a fresh egg you are really missing out), seafood from the local waters and other high quality, lighty prepared and portion controlled meals. If you know a teen that struggles with weight, give them the gift of a semester (or longer) at Mindstream Academy; building confidence, self-esteem, a healthy strong body, a new knowledge of food, eating and cooking, fun fitness and life long friendships. It’s a cool school. Help me grow it. We need our kids to be strong!

In Praise of Cocoa, Cupid’s Nightcap

Half past nine-high time for supper;

‘Cocoa, love?’ ‘Of course, my dear.’

Helen thinks it quite delicious,

John prefers it now to beer.

Knocking back the sepia potion,

Hubby winks, says, ‘Who’s for bed?’

‘Shan’t be long,’ says Helen softly,

Cheeks a faintly flushing red.

For they’ve stumbled on the secret

Of a love that never wanes,

Rapt beneath the tumbled bedclothes,

Cocoa coursing through their veins.
